What is Sesame Seed Oil?

Sesame, which belongs to the Pedaliaceae family and whose scientific name is Sesamum indicum, is an annual plant. Extracted from the seeds of the sesame plant, which is mostly grown in Africa, sesame oil is very rich in vitamins and minerals such as phosphorus, copper, zinc, calcium, iron, manganese, selenium, E and B6.

Sesame oil is used as a frying oil in India, while it is used as a flavor enhancer in Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Japan, China, and Korea.
